Obongjayar is a Nigerian-born, London-based artist known for his spiritual fusion of Afrobeat, soul, and electronic music. He started his career publishing music on SoundCloud, catching the attention of XL Recordings executive Richard Russell, who invited him to contribute to the “Everything Is Recorded” project.
In 2016, Obongjayar released his first EP, “Home,” described by Noisey as “a unique voice navigating darkness with nocturnal, near-spiritual hymns.” He followed with “Bassey,” noted for sparse production, afrobeat rhythms, and themes of spirituality and politics. In 2019, he featured on Danny Brown’s album “U Know What I’m Sayin?” The Grammy winner released his second studio album, “Paradise Now,” in 2025.
