The Soweto Gospel Choir is a renowned South African musical ensemble founded in November 2002 in Soweto by David Mulovhedzi and Beverly Bryer. Drawing members from local churches in the historic township, the choir is celebrated for its dynamic blend of traditional African gospel music, spirituals, and contemporary pop, often performed with vibrant dance and colorful costumes. Their numerous accolades include three Grammy Awards for Best World Music Album: Blessed (2007), African Spirit (2008), and Freedom (2019). They also made history in 2009 by becoming the first South African artists to perform at the Academy Awards ceremony.
