Empress was released in 2020 and served as a celebratory extension of the themes established in Woman of Steel. The 15-track Afrobeats project expands her Pan-African vision, fusing Afro-pop, Highlife, Dancehall, and even R&B.
It featured an impressive lineup of global collaborators, including British singer Estelle, French artists Dadju and Vegedream, and the Mzansi Youth Choir from South Africa on the standout track “Rain.”
Critics noted the album’s consistent themes of love, joy, and empowerment, characterising it as lively and unapologetically African, even if it followed a familiar sonic trajectory. Empress reaffirmed her dominance as a global Afrobeats ambassador.
