The “Catch Me If You Can” album released in 2022 represents a new creative era for Adekunle Gold, affectionately dubbed “AG Baby”. The 14-track project was released independently through his Afro Urban Records and Platoon and showcased a significant sonic shift from his folk-influenced highlife roots to a more contemporary sound. This fourth studio album radiates with themes of freedom, self-assurance, and the fruits of his relentless hustle.
The album is enriched by an impressive roster of collaborations with international artists, including Ty Dolla $ign on “One Woman,” Stefflon Don on “FYE,” and Fatoumata Diawara on the opening track “Born Again”. It also features the popular amapiano-infused hit “High” with Davido, which became a fan favorite. On tracks like “Mercy,” he prays for divine protection from fake friends. By the time you hit the title track, “Catch Me If You Can,” you realize the song was not about running but arrival. Adekunle isn’t chasing success anymore; success is chasing him.
