“A Better Time” dropped in November 2020, right in the middle of global lockdowns and all sorts of unrest. You can feel that in the music. Davido spent most of the year at home, which he said gave him the space to really dig into the album.
The whole thing feels hopeful and celebratory, even though you can sense there’s more going on underneath, like escape and resilience. He brought in some big names for this one: Nicki Minaj, Nas, Lil Baby, Young Thug, Tiwa Savage, and others show up, adding their own flavor.
The production leans on steel drums, horns, and synths, all of it pushing the idea that better days are coming. You still hear Davido’s love for hits, but he’s taking bigger swings this time, mixing global hip-hop and pop with his Afrobeats roots.
