Everyone says that the best burgers are filled with your favorite fillings with the meaty slab in the middle. But “Fireboy DML’s” PLAYBOY album begins with the meat and ends with the meat. And he made it even better by lacing this lunch with everyone’s favorite fillings: a little bit of jazz, a little bit of reggae and dancehall, R&B and Pop, and of course, Afrobeat.
However, this album is not just an incredible blend of diverse sounds and melodies; it is also a coming-of-age album. “Fireboy DML” has gone through the gestation period and is now ready to fly out of his cocoon. The first track, “Change,” explains this better as he expresses a wee bit of nervousness about this new phase. But his last track, “Glory,” an energetic piece that makes you feel as ecstatic as he is, confirms to his fans that he is indeed ready to take the world by storm and bask in his full potential.
