When grief meets artistry, you get something profound. Vector’s fifth studio album, “Teslim: The Energy Still Lives in Me,” released on November 11, 2022, came from a journey of rediscovery that started with his father’s passing in 2017. Named after his late father, the title is also an acronym meaning “The Energy Still Lives in Me.”
The 16-track project blends hip-hop with Afrobeats, tackling self-discovery, legacy, fatherhood, and Nigerian realities. Vector teamed up with Wande Coal on “Mama Maradona,” Nasty C on “What’s That II,” Seun Kuti on “Mami Wota,” and Ladipoe on “Clowns,” among others. Songs like “I Need You” are literal letters to his daughter, while tracks like “Mercy” pay tribute to his father.
Since 2017, Vector experimented with a sound he calls Rapfrobeat, fusing Afrobeat with rap and hip-hop. The album received mixed reviews for its length, conscious themes and emotional depth.
